today i got a ticket after parking a friends car using my disabled badge which is valid and the right way round but didnt display the clock by accident as i had just used it in a supermarket without using the clock so i was gobsmacked when i came back and see the ticket never had one before but i am going to appeal because i dont feel it is fair as my badge was valid what do i do does anyone know help please

Was it in a supermarket. and was it free parking? TYhe Blue badge doesn't apply in a private car park like a supermarket.

If it is a Parking Charge Notice, and not a Council FPN, forget an appeal, as PPC's don't do appeals, you automatically lose, and have to pay more. Well you don't because you ignore them

What parking firm issued the ticket?

Depends where you were parked. Many people believe a Disabled badge entitles them to park anywhere which is not the case.


If you have broken any of the terms of the badge then i am afraid they are entitled to fine you. However if this is a ticket issued by the local authority you can appeal and possibly get leniency.

If the wording was Penalty Charge Notice and it came from a private company, the company is guilty of criminal misrepresentation. Please say who the PCN was from.

No private company can levy fines. Only public bodies with the appropriate statutory powers can fine people

In general the view is that not displaying the clock allows the motorist to cheat other disabled drivers of parking so whether or not the badge is valid, you'll get a ticket because you could potentially be cheating.

Do you mean you used it previously to this parking place in a supermarket CP or that you were IN a supermarket CP? - What is the exact wording on the PCN? - Parking Charge Notice or PENALTY charge notice?

If its a PARKING charge notice then forget it. Don't pay, don't write, just ignore it. If it is a PENALTY and has a council address then you must deal with it - read on.

That doesn't really matter. HOWEVER, many councils do cancel PCNs that had no clock displayed if you write in and explain what happened but they nearly always have a one strike policy.

Assuming its a council ticket, Write in. They'll either cancel it or reject your plea. At that point you can then appeal to the traffic penalty tribunal and you'll be sent a form to do this.
