How can I find out my exact status re No Claims etc?

I have had a licence for 13 years and I don't think I have ever made a claim. However I wasn't the named driver for all that time so I know some of those years don't count. In short, I really have no idea exactly how many years of No Claims I have, which is particularly relevant with renewal looming. Is there any central database which stores the exact car insurance history of everyone, or do the insurers just work on what you give them? I obviously also don't want to give wrong information should I have to make a claim and it comes back to haunt me, and also my wife has made claims and she will be a named driver on the policy. Any help with this, even if it is a simple confirmation that there is no one to whom I can turn, would be much appreciated.

have you had a policy in your own name in the last 2 years?
if not then in most cases the no claims bonus laspses so you would be back to 0Sealed pot challenger # 10

Yes I have, I think I probably have had a policy for about ten years in my own name without any breaks, I am just not sure exactly how it all stacks up.0

Your last renewal letter will show you what NCD you have. That is the only place you need to look.
If it says something like "5 years maximum entitlement" then your insurer only bases it's discounts on a max of 5 years. Some insurers may be prepared to send you an entitlement letter showing more than their max, but only if they keep that info on their records and only if you have been insured by the same company for the longer period.
If you keep copies of each year's renewal notices, then you can show when that 5 year maximum entitlement was reached and with the subsequent renewal notices, you can prove to any new insurance company that you have acrued 5 + the number of subsequent renewals = total entitlement.
If the new insurer only uses a max of 5 years too, then it is pointless trying to show you have more years entitlement since the discount will not improve past the 5 years. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. ..... also my wife has made claims and she will be a named driver on the policy.....
Her claims make no difference to your NCD unless any of her claims were made on your policy, but if they ocurred during the time frame asked about for drivers' history (usually 3 to 5 years), then they are relevant to your renewal, and do need to be declared.0 -
There is no central database of no claims discounts.
There is the CUE database that holds details of some-most claims but it is not complete and as there is no "single customer view" it is a matter of probability if there is an accident involving someone with your name, your data of birth but a different vehicle if that is you and you've changed your car or if it is someone else that happens to share your name & DoB.
Of cause NCD is different to your claims history. A ND accident on your policy would effect your NCD but not your claims history. If you have protected NCD then a claim from you would impact your claims history but not your NCD.
You would need to speak to your current insurers to find out what your level of NCD is, one of the challenges as has already been said however is that a significant proportion of insurers only record a maximum of 5 years and others is "unlimited".0
