  • That looks like it may be a system built block similar to, or ex-local authority?

If it is, ask the management agent what system it is and what builder constructed it

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Something that no one has mentioned thus far.... you state there are no external gutters ? many of these types of flats / communal houses have gutters that are on the roof, the down pipes to these go down through the building which is what I am thinking your problem is.

I work as a building maintenance engineer and have this in mant of the properties I look after, it could well be that if you do have internal downpipes one or more of the support brackets has become dislodged or has broken allowing the downpipe to move.

Another potential cause could be ventillation pipes for any extract fans you have within your flat, toilet - kitchen - shower could well be vented to the roof where there could be back draught shutters clanking ? another line for you to investigate.
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful

Thats a very interesting idea re the gutters, could well be the problem!! Dont think we have any extractor fans within the building so would probably rule them out.

Thanks for all the ideas, will be very useful come Monday when I get to speak to someone about it!
