Amazon Email Gift Certificates - Urgent Warning

I can sort of see Amazon's point of view on this, though. I had to sent a gift certificate to somebody recently and he had problems receiving it. For whatever reason, the original e-mail Amazon sent with his gift code never arrived. So I logged into my Amazon account and was able to "re-send" it to another of his e-mail addresses. Obviously this invalidated the original code, but it meant he received it. Without the resend option, which can either send to the same address again or enter a new one, it would have been a pain to get this sorted.

Obviously what the company who pay you are doing is wrong, but I don't think Amazon's systems are in the wrong. Especially when most of the time gift cards will be sent for personal reasons and there may be genuine reasons to switch, other than trying to deprive somebody of their income. I think the company you're dealing with are definitely in the wrong here.
This is everybody's fault but mine.

I'm glad you cleared it up and it wasn't your friends taking their gifts back.

Thanks for sharing the info I'm sure it will be helpful to a lot of people.

I'd send them a letter prior to court action.

I don't know the legal technicalities of this but once someone gives your something - whether or not is a a contractual payment or a gratuity - it seems very odd that they should be able to take it back.

If they did this with a tangible asset the name for what they have done would be 'theft'.

    Send who a LBA?

Paypal do something similar if you are sent a payment to an unregistered email address. You have to 'claim' the money and if you don't then the sender can cancel the payment. I suppose they consider you not to have accepted it.
  • Thanks for the warning.
I hope you get it sorted.
