this programme is making a lot more sense to me now!!0 -
I'm finding this programme quite irritating to watch - together we're on an income of around £20oddk (I'm unemployed at the mo) and are managing to get by after paying rent, council tax, loan, gas and elec, food per month, but it's tight and doesn't really allow room for saving. I think it would be much more interesting and informative watching lower income households than people on 40k.February Grocery Challenge - £100.87/£180February Don't Throw Food Away Challenge - £0.60/£1.500

I know what you mean, we're just over £20k and we're both employed. While not wanting to belittle the famly on the programme (with triplets, their outgoings must by necessity be larger than mine in a couple with no children!) more and more people currently are struggling to survive on their incomes and it would be more interesting to see really low incomes, perhaps even people getting Jobseekers or disability benefits.0 -
I've found it quite interesting with the mix of different people all "surviving" on the same amount of money. There's a big difference between the family with triplets or the family paying a large amount of money to send their son to the US for an operation, compared to the family who send their daughter to private school, have 3 cars, expensive holidays, etc etc.
Not that I'm criticising, but they have very different lives.0 -
If ever there was a reason NOT to send your child to private school it was that girl "Oh don't start me on about how clever i am..."
SHUT UP!!
Otherwise it was quite interesting.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
I found it interesting to see what's important to different people.
I thought how generous the guy with the guitar was, when he spoke about the inequality in the world and gave £200 a month to charity.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

I agree, how embarrassed is she going to be if this shows up on some tv programme in 10 years time? Cringeworthy & Ashamed. her parents actually seemed ok, but theyve obviously made her into a llittle princess for here to come out with a comment like that.0 -
I watched this too, I thought the 13 year old was joking, not serious about how clever she was. I did laugh at the look of horror that crossed her mum's face when the presenter suggested she get a job if they couldn't manage on the £40k a year.
My take on money & having enough is probably a little skewed, as if we can pay the bills I'm happy. Between us hubby & I take home nearly £21k, his train fares are £1500pa plus the petrol I use driving him to the station. I feel comfortable financially despite living in the south east which is not cheap & paying a mortgage of £400 a month. The list of things we don't have is pretty long, lol, but it works for us.

How did the bankrupt couple get £300,000 plus to re-mortgage their house.?
Train Driver thicko gets £47,000, Teacher gets £21,000, just shows the priorites we have.0 -
We live on less than £15,000 pa so people like that get up my nose.
I agree with others that they should have looked on people surviving on £20,000 pa or less, because there are a lot more of them.
I suppose they chose £40,000 because that is supposed to be the average income, that is definitely not true if you work for a council though......I wish!Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
