  • if you have laminate down you probably wont be able to do it without removing the laminate first. then lift the floorboard where the bricks are and channel them out or drill a hole in them and pass the cable through.
Sounds like you rent the place. If you need another socket somewhere cant you run it as an extension lead and put the cable in trunking. Then it can be removed when you move on. Not the best way to do it but an option which you can easily DIY

Bear in mind that there are regulations about what you can and can't do, and that some work must be inspected. Apologies if I am stating the surprisingly obvious.

trying to use drill and saw to cut through the wood, but scared that might drill into a pipe, which will the job bigger!
Erm...do you actually know what you are doing?! It sounds like you could end up making a mess of things and having a very annoyed landlord!!

Laminate flooring is usually tongue and grooved so you can only remove it from one end of the room. If you try removing it from the middle you will split the joints and probably won't be able to re-lay it properly.

A bit concerned about what you are doing!
Are you carrying out notifiable work?
Have you spoken to building control?

I would find out exactly what sort of floor you have - maybe post some photos here. I would be very surprised if you had a suspended wooden floor that had been infilled with concrete - that sounds bizarre and a horrible bodge if it is true.

    no. not renting the place.

yes we are trying to fit in new cables.

yes ur right its a wooden floor filled with concrete between the joists
trying to lift the laminated floor, but not having much luck at the moment...any idea?

the wiring in the existing sockets is shorting somewhere, difficult to find the fault, therefore have to rewire all sockets.

...and those of you who were concerned...thumbs up to you! well spotted.... maybe i sounded i little unprofessional, that cuz its a friend of mine who is doing the work, who is gas and electrical engineer....this is the first time he has come across something like this. he been trying to lift that leminated floor for 3 days now!

If your friend is an electrician he will have a tester and the knowledge with with to locate and rectify the fault, which might not involve taking up your floor or rewiring all your sockets. I know he's a mate but would it be worth getting another opinion?

If it was me I'd be looking at a different solution to your problem rather than taking up the floor. After 3 days I think he should too!!
