What are our rights?

Hi there, my husband and I bought a 2005 Fiat Stilo 1.4 petrol car from a local garage about 6/8 weeks ago for our son. When we went to see it, it was idling in the garage, the garage owner explained that it had been sitting on the forecourt for a while and wasn't running right but if we bought the vehicle, he would ensure it was right before we took it home. Stupidly, we bought the car. He told us at that time that as it was for a 19 year old, he would only give us a couple of weeks warranty although he said he would cover the problem. My son had the car for about 3 weeks when it broke down on his way home from work. The garage provided a courtesy car and took the car back to have a look at it. They apparently sorted it. It has now broken down again!!!!! We have had it at a local garage and they explained it may be the ECU behind the throttle body but today they have replaced it and it is still not working. Also within this time, we have had to replace the rear brake discs and pads as they were severely goosed (at a cost of £200).

Where do we stand with the garage? Are we entitled to a refund as far as I can see, he has sold a car that is not fit for purpose?

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated...

Regards

JE
