I have just tried to claim PPI from Lloyds TSB without success
I took a loan out in 1982 for £3000 and I definitely paid PPI on it, my wife remembers the bank manager telling us that we had no option but to take the PPI or we not receive the Loan.
I phoned the PPI claims department with the claim but within days they have replied that they cannot trace the loan, Another telephone conversation in which the attitude of the person was not very good, I did tell him this and he suggested that I go to my branch and they will trace it for me. Take photographic evidence with me, he said
Today I visited the branch and they were very helpful but their records don’t go back as far 1980’s, I had also had an old TSB bank book with me that didn’t help.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

they have replied that they cannot trace the loan

No surprise given how long ago it was.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

If they have no evidence and you have no evidence then its end of the road. You havent indicated what evidence you have.

The further back you go, the harder it is as documentation does get destroyed over time as it doesnt need to be held on to and nearly 30 years is a long time.

I also have to say that your reason for complaint is very weak. it is a verbal accusation 30 years after the event with no evidence to support it. It is also in a period where PPI pressure sales were uncommon and indeed unusual for PPI to be held. Most loans in that period with insurance were for life assurance rather than PPI. Back then, banks were allowed to insist on insurance too.

  • Thanks for that.
I don't have evidence relating to the loan, I just felt that the bank were being very unhelpfull in their endeavors to investigate the claim. We can both remember the appointment to secure the loan and what was said and belief me this was PPI that sold to us.I can remember the what you could claim if you were off work ill.
  • I didnt know PPI even existed in 1982.

  • Between 1970 and 1985 the various trustee savings banks in the United Kingdom were amalgamated into a single institution known as the TSB Group Plc, which was floated on the London Stock Exchange

In 1995 the TSB merged with Lloyds Bank to form Lloyds TSB
