iPod help- which one?

Hey all, daughter has requested an ipod as her number 1 Xmas pressie this year and I've begun a search to get a good deal... however as always the way with tech stuff, I was so unaware that there are a multitude of different ipods and I am at a loss as to what I should be aiming for.
I would be grateful if someone could give me a quick rundown of what I should be aiming for- I think we're after an ipod touch if that helps, rather than a nano, BUT as long as it stores music (a given really
) can play games and films, maybe apps, then we're happy. I have no idea if they are wifi enabled, but this would be wanted too. I'm really aiming for about £100 but will go up to £150. DD will have to go without other pressies though, but she seems happy about this! Ooo she is only 11yrs old as well. A £20 Walkman would have done me at her age!:D
If there are any good sites that explain the differing types as well please point me in the right direction! Many thanks

I think at HMV you can get an 8GB iPod touch with a free speaker dock for £149, think currys may have the same offer too.
you can compare the different iPods here, but I would personally go for the iPod touch as it can do music and video along with play games (a lot of them are free) from the apple app store, read books on it, record HD video and take photos, whereas all the other ipods are just music.0 -

I was going to post a link but then I thought better of encouraging Apple's plans to take over the world. However, the best I could find at Curry's for Touch with speaker dock is £169.98 - but please don't do it, buy somethihg, anything else.0

I cant think of a valid reason to buy an i pod as our son has a nokia X6 that plays music and games and even makes phone calls and has 16 gb.
But he wants One:eek:, what he wants and what he gets is two different things.
Plus i aint paying for songs on i tunes when we have them on media player on the PCSpending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -

You do not HAVE to buy anything on iTunes, you can simply drag your files from Windows media Player into the iTunes player. itunes is very convienient, and often the cheapest though...
iPod Touch is £149 at Comet at the moment, and I think a lot of retailers are following suit to match price. not seen one at that price with any speaker dock though. However, being a former Curry's employee, I can assure you that any 'free' speaker dock is terrible quality. Better to get the ipod and let the user choose a decent speaker dock. always listen to them instore first.0 -
Thanks all. I did have a read about on the web after posting this and it appears that an 8GB is considered too small a memory, as this will be eaten up with videos/films/programmes etc. 32GB is more ideal. However I appreciate this then means the price goes up too....
Is it worth considering getting an older version/generation of ipod? How about getting a second hand one?0 -
Have a look on ebay I recently picked up a 32gb iPod touch for £175 on there and it was listed as nearly new, and it was in perfect condition when it arrived, infact it did look brand new:D0

turns out they don't have that offer on anymore, but for future reference the deals like free speaker docks and giftcards are mainly instore only and not reflected on the website.0
