Virgin Money Travel Insurance

I am looking at the Virgin Money Essential Single Trip (excluding baggage) insurance policy on Moneysupermarket and was wondering if it would insure against snow, or volcanic ash (if something decides to erupt over Christams). We never fly during the Christams holidays as a rule, but this time we have been emotionally blackmailed in to a family reunion. We're booked with Emirates and the tickets have cost us a small fortune at this late time. This is why I'm considering getting some sort of insurance cover in case things go awry.

Has anyone used Virgin Money travel insurance who can comment?

Also, who would be responsible for paying out if flights are cancelled due to snow/natural disaster: Emirates or the insurer?

i think there is a section on this website about travel insurance and it specifies the companies that include volcanic ash cover. Or you could get some quotes and then ring the policy holder - have you rung virgin?

Surely you always buy travel insurance though and not just on this trip? when I buy travel insurance I dont get it just to cover the cost of flights, the most important reason to get it is incase you get ill in another country. That would cost you far more!

Thanks Claire. I had missed that article.

So it seems the airline should be able to refund me if it is cancelled at short notice because of ash. Does the same apply to snow/strong winds/poor weather basically?

Surely that is an act of god which no insurer will cover you for.

    Hi salboy,
I was curious about what the policy covered so I read the policy wording.

Then why do they have weather derivatives trading in financial markets?

And they do cover medical expenses. Surely falling sick is also an act of God.
