Providing information as a Guarantor

Twins at Uni end of 1st term and now looking at 2nd years accommodation. Yet more up front costs (agency "fees" £50 & £83 - Deposit £250 & £400). With their loans not even covering their accommodation it is proving tough for us.

However.

I already guarantor for my son's 1st year and now 2nd year accommodation. For my daughter the guarantor form wants some number ID (passport, nat ins no, driving licence no), employers details, income and savings details.

Needless to say I'll provide what info I think they need. I'm either the guarantor or not. If she doesn't pay they'll chase me whatever.

What info have others been asked for as a guarantor? Is it always the norm to ask for a guarantor?

I wouldn't give employer details what so ever. If they come after you, they will go through your company, which could have repurcussions for your job.

never seen it with that much info before. my experience was that it only required name and address but it is fairly normal for student accommodation to have a guarantor of some sort. it might just be that they've needed to chase people in the past so are over cautious? seems intrusive to me - perhaps ask on the renting board and see what some of the landlords on there say about it?

It's very normal for student landlords to want a guarantor as students are unlikely to have a history of renting to get a reference etc. I'd ask them why they want to know so much and tbh would be reluctant to provide more than Name, Address, Phone Number. What could they possibly want more information for?

My dad had to supply his income details (well, his boss did) to prove that he could afford it and was earning X times more than my annual rent. I'm not sure if he had to give a passport to prove ID but I think he may have along with the credit check.
