bird flu hits bernard mathews turkeys...what do you think?

They have now admitted bringing in lorry loads of dead birds from Hungary and they have been doing this till the illness in their turkeys last week.
Government and officials knew about this but did not tell the public.
Careful statements were made that were "factual" such as no live birds or eggs were brought in!
A far cry from an honest and full statement of the situation.
Reminds me of the rumour that the "Great Fire of London" was started by a baker in Pudding Lane! Bernard Matthews could go down in history as the person who brought bird flu to Britain!
Ironic when you think that official advice was that if it happened - it would be wild birds and small domestic poultry that would be the risk."This site is addictive!"

It makes me laugh really (and as a vegetarian I can laugh at this :rotfl: ), that they are marketing their products proudly as Norfolk turkey, when in reality they've always been importing "partially prepared" turkey from Hungary. Why does anyone want to eat this hideous amalgamation of flesh anyway - bird flu or not?0

Buy one get one free on turkey burgers in Tescos today, and they still weren't selling, wonder why!One day I might be more organised...........

I hope they are going to reduce loads of turkey in the supermarkets. I've never been into BM foods much. My reasons for this are that I don't live far from the factory (about 20 miles) and a lot of the people who work there live in this town and they all hate their job, say they are treated very badly as employees and have always said the place isn't clean. The other reason is that my next door neighbour works there and he is always coughing and sneezing. He sneezes at least 40 times a day then it all goes quiet when he is on his BM shift. He must be coughing and sneezing all over the meat. He's also not very clean, his fingers are always all yellow from nicotine and he has greasy hair and BO. I just think if they employ people like that what on earth is the meat like?
Other than that there is no risk of bird flu from eating products. There is going to be another daft food scare just like the beef one and the egg one. It'll pass in a few months.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040 -
There was some reduced turkey which wasn't BM I noticed aswell, and chicken, I don't even buy my meat there but I couldn't resist being nosey after reading this thread :rotfl:
I think that black_saturn about the workers can be said about employees of many factories unfortunately, have a few round here and I wouldn't eat what the staff touched after seeing them. One day I might be more organised...........

In defence - my mother actually works in a factory that produces food products (not meat products though)....and she is one of the cleanest people I know! In fact she's verging on OCD :rotfl: Her house is immaculate. She has never, ever smoked and is very healthy. I'm happy to eat products that she brings home on occasion.0

Watching the news tonight convinced me never to buy BM stuff again, and not because of bird flu. They showed the inside of the processing plant and there were all these big steel containers of pink mush to which someone kept shovelling minced up raw meat - it looked totally rank. I abhor the conditions of all battery farms but have, over the years, taken a rather laissez-faire attitude because of price and pressure from my very fussy daughters, who both unfortunately love junk (I blame MIL who minded them before they started school but that is just passing the buck because I was too unassertive to say anything to her...), but after tonight I am definitely not going to every buy any BM product or indeed battery farmed anything again. Of course there is no risk from eating poultry though because the Government experts tell us that it is safe, providing it is fully cooked, and after all they did say that BSE couldn't be passed on from eating beef and Iraq did have all those weapons of mass destruction......:rolleyes:Jane
