Laptop running without battery?

This is a new one on me but has anyone else had this? My friend has a Fujitsu laptop which has suddenly taken to not turning on. The light flicks on the it goes off a fraction of a sec later.
I think its the battery but usually laptops will work with just the AC power. Has anyone else got a Fujitsu laptop and can tell me if this is normal or indeed anyone with a laptop that doesn't work unless battery is attached?
Thanks

I'm not sure if the laptop starts working by sticking in the charger because it charges the battery or because it can directly run the laptop... only one way to find out i suppose.
It definatly sounds like a problem with the battery though!0 -
We have an ancient Dell whose battery is as dead as a dodo, and only works with AC power. It doesn't make any difference whether the battery is in or out (but it leaves a nasty hole if you remove it)...

I have an Acer laptop and that will not work on AC power unless the battery is inserted.
I recently purchased a replacement battery after using it on mains only for months, if I took the old dead battery out it would power off.0 -
Could you have turned off the screen's backlight by accident?
Incidentally, I read somewhere that it is bad to run a laptop with mains power with the battery in, shortens the life of the battery by overcharging it or something.

but the light switched off a fraction of a sec later... if it was a fault with the screen, the light will stay onTheFlyingGerbil wrote:Could you have turned off the screen's backlight by accident?

Could also be the PSU as the cause... but battery's the more likley option0
