New 'stainfree' carpet advice, please?

When we bought our carpet I didn't realise there were so many shades of beige, its a real struggle just now to get anything other than a "beige".

We never found the colour we were looking for and had to compromise in the end with a coral colour.

Surely the point of a stain free carpet is that it's toddler-proof?

If you mean the rug doctor things, they are not too great. You'd be better off callling a local carpet fitter/cleaner and having them do it... should be no more than £25-£40 depending on size of room...

GF's Dad is a carpet fitter and he also has two carpet cleaning machines... the biggest one was upwards of £5000... so decent ones are expensive.

RE: Stain free carpets... I've helped him out a few times and I've never seen him fit a stain free carpet, not sure how good or bad they are

he does often get insurance jobs as people take out insurance on carpets which covers accidental damage. One woman had spilled red wine on her carpet and they still replaced it... not sure if she was honest about the wine though....

He's laid a sort of light brown twist carpet in their home and it's really nice... doesn't feel dark at all... if there are any stains on it, they are inconspicuous, or rather invisible.

The light brown would be a good compromise for you; we went for a darker carpet in our home, but if I had the money I'd swap them for the one he used in his.

I had all of the carpets cleaned before we moved in. Cost £70 for the living room (23'x12'), dining room, stairs and landing and 4 double bedrooms. It may have been cheaper because there was no furniture in the house then.

I don't have the guy's number anymore . Perhaps I'll do some phoning around.

Yeah, wor lass' dad said he just varies the prices depending on how busy he is and how many rooms they want done....

Mind the biggest machine he has is a beast... All metal thing that weighs a tonne and is about the size of one of those food trollies you get on planes.

He used it on a cream carpet that clearly hadn't been looked after and even for a 15 minute clean the before and after were polar opposites.

I bought a stainfree carpet for my living room in October. I have had only wool carpets before, so I only asked to look at wool carpets in the shop. I was a bit reluctant to look at a stainfree carpet, but once Iwas shown them, and the benefits to me explained ( I have a dog who runs in with muddy paws, and can be only sick in the living room! ) I decided to give it a try. I chose a carpet made up of 3 beige colours, in a mottled shadow effect. It cost just under £1000, which included underlay and fitting, for a room about the same size as yours. The carpet fitter said that stainfree is the most popular carpet he fits. He said he had fitted them throughout his own house, and a cream bedroom carpet had survived his son being sick on it, after eating spaghetti, with no problems. Meanwhile, my dog as been sick on my carpet 4 times, and nobody can tell, even me! I am very pleased with it so far, and I have recommened to another doggy friend.

Stain-free carpets are actually very reliable. Most are guaranteed for at least 10 years and you can use industrial bleach and the colour won't fade.

Many carpets are now stain-free and a good company will allow you to test the samples for yourself.
