MSE News: Price wars help push inflation down

Five a day should be easy ... I tend to 'juice' in the mornings so all done by lunchtime.

Does anybody here care about inflation?? It looks like its just winos/weirdos having fun on this thread ... but I wold love it to turn to serious discussion.
5% inflation doesn't sound too terrible to someone who was around in the 70s and early 80s.
However, there are a couple of things about 5% that give me a harsh reality check:
1) Consistent 5% inflation means that the value of money halves in 12 years (though compared to late 70s/ early 80s when prices tripled in 7 years, it sounds almost acceptable)
2) If I don't put my window cleaning prices up, effectively I've taken a 5% pay cut. Now that sounds much worse than rolling "5% inflation" off the tongue. 5% pay cut sounds much more personal.0 -

In any event, if MSE is taking the trouble to report on inflation then it would be helpful to also report the actual indices for those who might find them useful.Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
