Strange phone problem

I'm getting a caller (friend of a friend) that calls me on my home phone but when they "hangup" at the very end of a conversation, I don't get the beeping dial tone that indicates the person on the other side has cut the phone call (hungup) from their home phone. It's also happened when this same person has hungup to answer the door, I can't tell the phone was cut as there is only silence on the line and no beeping.

Is there any reason this could be happening? My phone and phone line are perfectly fine and it only happens with this specific caller. Don't really want to ask this person but I am curious.

The call is not being correctly terminated by the caller. Anyone calling your line controls it until they terminate, if they do not yor line stays 'looped' until the timeout releases it. As this person if they find they have high bills, as they'll still be paying for the call if the line isn't released.
