Slight droning noise

  • Could be wheel bearing, or slightly sticking caliper ( i recently had a noise that I was convinced was a wheel bearing, but turned out to be a sticking rear caliper).
Does the noise get worse when you steer in a particular direction - if it's louder turning left then it would indicate a right-hand side bearing, and vice versa.

Unless the wheel bearing is really shot, you might not be able to feel any movement in the wheel when it is jacked up unless you are specifically looking for it.

    Thanks all.

Well the garage looked at it today and despite spending an hour taking it for a couple of runs and putting it on the ramp, they were unable to say what is causing the noise, but they were pretty sure it wasn't a bearing.

I am loathe to put it into the Ford service centre and pay through the nose for them to possibly say the same thing.

I am now actually thinking about trading it in as I'm starting to lose faith in it a bit.

Was the noise there before fitting the winter tyres?

Yes it was. One of my summer tyres was at 3mm tread before I changed them so I thought it might be that, but the noise was still there after the winters went on.

It could be one of the pads not quite seated correctly...... Tends to happen if non-OEM pads are fitted.

It still has the original Ford pads. It's still under warranty.
