Australian Electronic Travel Authority (ETA)

I believe I need an Electronic Travel Authority to visit Australia. The 'official' price seems to be £20 but the agent I booked the flights with reckons they can do them for £15. A subsequent online search found places doing them for as little as £6.50. If it's a government thing I don't understand how places can be doing these visa's for less than the official price?? It's not possible to get a US ESTA for less than the official price of $14 as far as I'm aware. Are these places offering them for £6.50 a scam?

It should be free if you have a UK passport and are a British Citizen. Apply here.

They are not necessarily scams - travel agents can access the ETA system for free - they just have to buy software and do a bit of training. An enterprising person could set up on his own as an agent and possibly still make a bit of cash undercutting the government

But if you have a UK passport you do not need an ETA. You need an e-visitor, which is free on the official site
