Any delivery companies that collect & drop off?

Hi, looking for a delivery company in UK that picks up an item from Location A, and then deliver to Location B!

Do such 'couriers' exist?

I tend to avoid items on ebay that say 'Buyer must collect' - due to distances involved, but thought it would be great if a service existed that could do it all for me.

Thanks

    DO they?

If I buy something on ebay from a seller who doesnt deliver - I can arrange collection by booking a courier at my end, at my cost, to pick up, and then bring the item to me?

Its a genuine question as I dont use courier / postal services that often other than to ocassionally post odds & sods, and I'm not much of an ebayer person

Any links to such providers please? Thanks

What sort of item is it? Furniture would be a different sort of carrier than a box of books.
Have you asked the seller if they're happy for a courier to collect?

Yes you can arrange the collection yourself...BUT you must get the sellers consent before arranging. If I'm selling something which is collection only, then there is a reason. As the seller I wouldn't want to be packing things up and waiting in for couriers.

Most couriers would do this if the seller packaged the item and the seller stuck the packaging slip you would have to email them - but many might do collection only because they can't be bothered with all the packaging and waiting for colelction.

What you are asking is if there is somebody that will go to the seller with an empty box, collect said it, then deliver it to you? I think there must be somewhere - I know some companys work their returns like this - seller would still have to wait around though.
  • You might find someone to do what you want on https://www.shiply.com if the couriers won't play ball.
  • https://www.anyvan.com were pretty good when I had a few heavy items collected and delivered - van or delivery truck drivers with part loads or returning emplty across the country will collect "collection only" ebay items and deliver to you much like furniture delivery companies do - works brilliantly, you can buy expensive white goods / fridges etc for a real bargain, as many collection only items attract few bids, and have it delivered very reasonably by set ups like anyvan, where the drivers bid for your business - you post up what the item is, where it is, and where and when you would like dleivery and wait for the bids to roll in........obviously, you need to communicate with the seller and ask if you can have the item collected before you bid, although this is really a courtesy - collection doesn't mean you have turn up yourself, someone can collect on your behalf. It does leave the seller in a problem potentially with spurious buyer claims supported by paypal, that delivery could not be tracked.........although I've not had this sort of problem.

Yes I agree that buyers need to confirm with a seller before bididng that they will allow a man with a van to come and collect. I think that there is very little chance of an experienced seller allowing this as they have a great deal more than the paypal scam to be aware of.

You might find the occasional inexperienced seller who will allow it, but that's about it. Also the OP needs to be aware that whoever they book must be OK to move a heavy item unwrapped and with no 'protection' for transportation and if it does arrive knocked and damaged then they would need to get it back to the seller again, at their own cost, for a full refund.

Thanks to all - as I suspected, its not so straightforward...despite texrangers sarcasm, it was a genuine enquiry.
