Hi,
I just got refused on an M&S credit card and i am assuming it's because I got a mortgage last month and the checks for this has affected my credit rating. So I am wondering is it just a matter of waiting a couple of months and applying again? Or should I do something else?
Thanks

Get yourself on the voters roll at your new address, pay all your bills on time, leave it at least 6 months and take it from there.
(Or ask your bank / mortgage lender for a credit card instead).0 -
Ahh longer wait period than I thought, but fair enough. There is a credit card that my lender does that would be great but is it different as they have provided my mortgage as surely they'll just refuse me for the same reason as m&s?0

Just an Update,
got declined, got a letter in post stating so. I have fairly good Income and has a good credit score. I have a feeling that M&S are not very keen on giving away CC to people who already have HSBC CC, my opinion, but may not be true.0 -
M&S card is supplied by HSBC. Not sure if that is the reason they rejected you.0

My OH has a HSBC card and an M&S one...he had the HSBC one first. Both had reasonably high limits, which have kept going up.
They do seem oddly selective...there doesn't seem to be a set 'fit' which they want people to have, or set reasons for decline.0 -
My M&S Credit Card application was declined despite I was having HSBC Current Account and HSBC Credit Card with a decent credit limit. Not to mention an excellent credit report.
After talking to their underwriting dept, came to know that it was a "system decision" based on a fact that I was working with my current employer for less than 1 year and I was living at my current address for less than 1 year.
I explained this was because I had taken the new job some 10 months ago and moved to a nearby address for easy commute. But overall I am working since past 6 years.
They then went on and turned the decision to "Approved", but with a lower credit limit for start. What I've learned from this is each creditor assesses application with their own criteria with M&S being more strict.0 -

Agreed. They declined my mother for a card last July, so she subsequently applied for an MBNA Platinum and a Saga Platinum straight after, which were both approved with cumulative limits totalling over £7,000...
Go figure.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
