steel framed houses ?

Hi,

I have been looking at a house to buy and it is a steel frame build. I am having problems obtaining mortgage for lenders do not want to lend on such a build. Could anyone give me any advice?.....I know it'll cost around £20k to have the property rebricked but cannot afford to do that, not currently anyway!.

The property overall is in fantastic condition, that may well be down to the fact that the vendors are having problems selling it on?.

Any advice or info on steel build houses would be very much appreciated.

thanks
claire

These are cheaper for the reason that they are hard to get mortgages on. There are only a couple of companies that are willing to lend on them.

Fair enough if you're willing to stay in the house a long time and accept a lower price when you sell it on in time to come.

But think about how hard it will be to sell when the time comes round again. I would steer clear and just buy a smaller brick house.

  • My husband inherited a steel framed bungalow from his mother and not ONE lender would lend on it.

Luckily, we sold it for cash (and bought our house in Spain with the proceeds:D ).

I'd get a more traditionally built house if I were you.

  • Thankyou to all who replied, I think steering clear is my only option. Thanks again
