It should be pointed out that as well as the extra fuel cost, the cost of the cigarette lighter adaptor, the battery charger and the rechargeable batteries must be taken into account.

Needs a mechanic to settle this but I dont think you increase the fuel cost from using the cigarette lighter so long as you were driving fast anyway.

This was sorted out in some of the earliest posts.
You cannot create energy from nothing, so there will be a be a fuel increment, it will be absolutely minute, but it will be there.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Im saying the car wastes fuel. You are wasting energy just pulling upto a stop light, the car is throwing off electricity sitting there waiting.
Use it or lose it, there is no extra fuel cost because the car is already producing too much electric for the battery to hold.

If you imagine some perfect equalibrum of production and consumpation by the car then the mobile charger is going to unbalance that off and cause this extra use of fuel.

What actually happens is the car produces too much energy, so much heat it has problems cooling itself. Too much motion that you have problem stopping it and also too much electricity.
Why would they make the alternator produce too much, maybe because the battery wears out, better too much then too little and people vary alot in how much they consume.
The car is massively inefficient, your mobile makes no difference

If the OP wants to come on and save well actually I charge too full sized 20kilo batteries every day. I use the energy up then charge them again via the truck eletrics, I imagine he is requiring more fuel to be burnt.
If not the mechanic speak to an audio freak, the guys running really heavy amp off car electrics will know about current draw and capacitors to regulate it. Basically they add in more batteries I think
  • This guy removes the alternator altogether and uses marine batteries to start his 2 ton V8 truck -
