To cut a long story short we booked a holiday from 17th December to 25th December for Myself, Wife and 3 teenage boys.
I made the stupid mistake of putting number of days in the holiday insurance as 7 and put return on 25th. This started the policy on the 18th.
Now, over the weekend our Grandaughter died and we cant go for obvious reasons. Thomas Cook said we cant cancel and would have to do it via insurance. That will lead to problems because of the dates.
Do we actually have any options other than try to sell it to someone to name change?
Thanks for any help.....

Thomas Cook are no help. The best they can do for me is exchange my Euro back to Sterling at a £160 loss.0 -
Can you find out the name of the Chief Exec of TC & write direct to them?
In view of the circumstances they may make a goodwill gesture & allow you to transfer to another time.
Sorry for your loss.0 -
I think you need to contact the insurers immediately, they are likely to be more sympathetic than TC who have no permanent Chief Executive and if recent publicity is to believed, need every penny they can get their hands on. However, you need to read your policy and see what 'close relatives' are included in the policy. Regretably grand children may not be included in their list which would allow cancellation even if the policy is valid. Fundamentally the cheaper the policy, the less likley there is to be any cover and with less than a week to go, TC may not be able to move the booking or change names, the usual cut off period is 21 days before departure. So my advice is read the policy under cancellation and see what it says, if grandchildren are listed, then call immediately and best of luck, I am sorry for your family's loss0
