Burger King - nearly FOUR TIMES your RDA of salt in ONE burger!?

I don't generally eat junk food, but I'm heading out to do some Christmas shopping and thought it might be convenient to grab something from Burger King. I haven't been for years so thought I'd check out their website first.
The Steakhouse Angus nutritional information shows that the burger contains 8.859g of sodium! Salt is 40% sodium, so that's equivalent to 22.1475g of salt! The RDA for an adult is 6g, so that's over 3.69 times the recommended amount for one day!
And that's without chips and a fizzy drink! It makes me glad I steer clear of junk food most of the time!
But... I can hardly believe it! Have Burger King made a mistake? Have I done my sums right?

It's a mistake...The crispy onions don't even weigh that much to contain that much salt. They would be more than 100% salt otherwise. Most burgers are around the 1 gram sodium mark ranging from 0.5 grams to 1.5 grams.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Phew! That's a relief! I see prices have gone up, though. For some reason I can remember the last Big Mac meal I had (in McDonalds rather than BK) was £2.88. The double Whopper meal I just bought was only a few pence shy of £7!
Gosh - I'm getting old! I thought only my dear grandmother was as out of touch with prices as that!0 -

It would have been 50p cheaper if you didn't ask for extra salt.0 -
Unconfirmed story from the back of my head @ 1am . There is so much sugar in a big mac that macdonalds put a gurkin in it to stop it being called a dessert. (can someone soberish confirm or call me a stinking fibber)0

That rings a bell with me too. Could be an urban myth but I've definitely heard it before. So what's the deal with Burger King then? Is that initial fact about the salt content true or not? I can't tell if everyone is being serious or not.0

Like HappyMJ says, it has to be a mistake - if you look at the OPs original link, the total salt content is made up almost exclusively by the crispy onions, whcih it says contain nearly 8 grammes of salt - but there aren't even going to be 8 grammes of crispy onions in total in the burger !0 -
doubt theres 8 grams of meat in their burgers0

It all depends on what the sodium forms a compound with as to whether it can be classed as part of your RDA for salt.
If it is Sodium Pentothal instead of Sodium Chloride then it wouldn't affect your RDAThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
