Car Insurance No Claims Help

Hello,
A colleague of mine moved to the uk in june of this year. prior to moving to the uk he had lived in italy and had car insurance in italy. since moving to the uk he has had difficulty in getting car insurance as no insurers seem to want to accept the no claims certificate issued by his italian insurer. the document has his name and the end date of the policy as well as a table showing the number of claims he made in each year (0 in his case). the trouble he seems to be having is that the document does not show a total of claim free years or the start date of the policy, he has contacted the italian insurer and they have said that this is the only document they can provide. are there any specialist insurers out there who specialise in this sort of cases.
thank you for all of your help
