I still have my old wicker basket from my school days, its in my spare bedroom filled with bits and pieces. When my ds was doing cooking at school last year I was telling him i used to have my wicker basket for all my cooking ingredients. I have not used mine since school perhaps I should start again if they are coming back into fashion. lol

I had one for years and totally loved it - I felt I was a real shopper!

Ended up using it as an outdoor planter for pansies in winter and busy lizzies in summer. It eventually rotted with the elements but worth it!

I love the sound of wicker. So tempted to buy this. Can you still get the types of baskets with the wicker flap/lid on the top (there are two of them on hinges)?

  • I can't believe this thread has popped up! I've been thinking about wicker baskets all week!

I saw an older lady with a wicker basket in the supermarket earlier this week. I thought it was such a brilliant idea. I haven't seen one since my days taking my home ec stuff to school, it's amazing how much stuff they hold.

The thing is I couldn't decide if using a wicker basket for my shopping would mean finally saying goodbye to my youth! What do you think? It's not very OS to worry about such things is it?

I couldn't use one, the last one I tried to use almost destroyed my skin on my hands. My friend works for Ringtons and his hands are wrecked from carrying them, in fact why not mug one of the tea boys for theirs :rotfl: sure he'd give you his if he boss didn't mind lol. I would use one for gardening etc, but not regular shopping (there are loads on eBay)

I use a reusable canvas bag I got from the library, very strong
One day I might be more organised...........

I am undecided whether to get a Wally Trolley or a basket. I guess a trolley would hold a lot more? (off to read the chic shopper thread)

i always remember my nanny having one of these. and the best bit was when my cousins and i were younger we were small enough to sit it in.( well only one of us could fit in at a time. ) but as we got older we found more and more uses for it. putting dolly's in it with blankets, or for playing shops. it was fab. i think my nan still has it. but it is used for great grand children now. rather than shopping like my nan did when she was younger.
