Bad work by garage

Drivers have a duty of care, and as such should carry out regular safety checks of their vehicle.
Where I live the police carry our regular spot checks on vehicles, and this is a check on everything: exhaust emissions, windscreen wash bottles, windscreen wipers, headlight and indicator lenses/bulbs, windscreens for cracks or other defects, fuel dips to check for agricultural grade fuel, the final check is they jack the car up and check the bearings for wear and tear, they check the wheel nuts and treads.
Each failure on the list of checks is liable for up to a £2500 fine and 3 points on the licence.
The direct.gov website shows the penalties.

There was also a story in a paper where a car was being towed and its wheel fell off, the wheel hit a paedestrian and cracked her skull, the people towing the car were both fined, and had points added to their licences as the car was in an unstable condition.

The garage also has a duty of care and as such they should of checked the nuts before the car was allowed to go.0 -
Get them to fix it properly, then take your business elsewhere. Losing that custom, especially when word-of-mouth is such a big thing with garages, will hurt them much more than offering you a small refund.0

On two occasions now I have left a garage and the bonnet hasn't been closed properly and it flaps up as I am driving up the road. I now double check everything before I leave the garage just in case. Also if I saw them jack my car up and smash the boot lid into the ceiling there is no way that I would have left without saying something or making damn sure that it was OK!0

Just thought Id post to let you know what happened.
The owner of the garage apologised and refunded me in full the £125 with a free MOT as well so I am happy with that
In reply to people saying I should have mentioned the boot before I left, yes I should have done and I am really annoyed at myself for not mentioning ithindsight is a wonderful things but at the time I trusted the honesty of the mechanics at the garage and never thought they would try to deceive me
