Expat insurance

Ten years ago my husband and I took out insurance as expats.
It was for a fixed term of ten years and we are now looking for more insurance
Ten years ago we were informed by IFA that only Friends Provident would cover expats.
Before the ten years were up, we contacted Friends Provident to say we would like to continue with them with a new policy.
They told us they couldnt deal with us directly and to use an IFA.
I made an appointment while i was in UK to see a local IFA (or so I thought) at a branch of Halifax he wasnt able to help at all, he didnt understand about expat insurance and so it was a waste of time.
We really only need insurance of around £50,000 each with critical illness.
We have savings, properties, no mortgages, children grown up, no debt, good pension in place.
I am only in the UK for a matter of days and would like something to take back with me to think about.
Its probably a lot more difficult than I imagine as things have almost certainly got much more complicated in the ten years since we last got insurance.
Any help or advice would be welcome

Halifax branches sell only LTSB/Halifax group products and haven't been a source of independent advice for years. They tend to echo most large high street financial institutions - if we don't do it, it don't exist. This is plainly rubbish, but the experience and knowledge of products outside their sales ability/authorisation is usually about nil.
You need a local firm of experienced Independent Financial Advisers and if you can't get a personal recommendation from family or friends, try here;-

Thanks for the information Kingstreet, I had come across the website and wasnt too sure whether to use it. Having read you post I have had another look, come across 5 local IFA, I will contact them and see what happens.
Thanks again0
