Extractor/Cooker Hood - filter advice please?

Hi,
We have a Neff cooker hood (extractor fan) above our hob. It's probably around 10 years old. We don't have the instructions for it.
Please can anyone tell us what type of filters we need to put in it?
Have Googled and looked on ebay and it seems there are "grease filters" and "carbon filters".
At the moment there's a very old and filthy quite thick mat like thing in it. Hard to describe, but about 1cm thick, black, sort of spongy. We think this might be the carbon filter.
Should we buy a replacement carbon filter and a grease filter - are they supposed to sit one on top of the other or should we just be using one of them? If one, which is the best to get?
We also need a cover for the bulb which is missing - pls does anyone know if we could improvise something to put here and any suggesions? Have googled it and espares.co.uk has some, although not for our model and these are around £12-£13 which seems steep for a small bit of rectangular plastic!
Many thx for any advice on this.

Is the cooker hood set/installed to extract (eg. vent outside) or re-circulate back into the room?
I think if a hood is extracting then you just need the grease filter to stop the fan/motor getting clogged, if it's recirculating you also need the carbon filter to absorb any smells.0 -
Try and find the model number. The model number should start with a D. Jonesya is right about the type of filter you need and it appears that you have a charcoal filter and the hood is recirculating. We’ve had to remove your signature. You can just use a generic grease filter if it's an extractor. Though if you haven't changed it in 10 years then it's probably in a dire state by now.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Hi,
Many thanks for the replies.
I don't honestly know whether it is a recirculating type or extracts to outside. It's in a block of flats and the kitchen wall backs on to the bathroom wall (thin plasterboard walls) and I can't see any boxing or housing for ducting/pipes so I assume it must be recirculating type? Is there any way I can know this for certain?
I've looked under the hood and there's a white label with loads of numbers on:
Neff “E-Nr F1602W0GB/01 FD 7502 139501” “5034-SP1” “195.310732. Typ D-AY1304”
Assume the "Typ D-AY1304" may be the model number but not sure.
Yes, the filter that's there at the moment is certainly very disgusting!! No idea when it was last changed, but the block of flats was built around 10 years ago...
If I need both, does the thick carbon one go in first with the grease one just sitting on top of it and being nearest to the external grill?
Many thanks!0 -
Ooh, sorry - have just had a look at Neff.co.uk's website and they have a query form you can email in for advice. So I've tried that and hopefully they will reply to tell me what type of unit this is and what I need....0

If there is no ducting to an exterior vent then it's a recirculating type.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Your model number is F1602W0GB/01. This must be from a long time ago and they all start with D now and have for a while.
Your FD number (they might require it) is FD 7502
This should give them enough to help you. Good lluck. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
