Iphone 4 - broken glass

Hi

Have dropped my Iphone :-(

I've had a look on ebay for replacement glass and there seems to be two choices:-

Glass cover and tools £8.99

or

Glass cover, lcd digitizer and tools £29.00

Which one should I go for? Although the glass is cracked, the phone is still responding to touch commands.

Many thanks
Terri

  • I dropped my Iphone 4 and smashed the front glass, I took it to apple and although they told me it would be £130 to fix and to make an appointment the day I went in they checked the serial numbers and said seeing as its the first time you've had a problem with apple we'll replace it for you for free and they swapped it for another phone!

Not that lucky. They did the same for me.

Not really. I'm no apple fan but one area they are pretty hot on is their end-user service. They'll normally make one repair for free, and if you're nice the "Genius'" (yeah, whatever) can often have their arms twisted.

Fantastic - I will try the shop first.

Grateful if anyone can answer my original question just in case?

    Thanks.

    I wasn't lucky - no free repair. Was £119.

Any ideas if I should order replacement glass or glass and digi bit.

The phone is working fine - glass is cracked.

My daughter had her glass replaced for £15 in a small phone kiosk in New Cross south London. This was a 3GS but the principle still applies I think.
A phone kiosk in Bluewater Shopping quoted £45

Thank you very much. Off to the Bluewater
  • Just a word of warning based on our experience last year...

Only attempt the the repair yourself if you are absolutely sure you know what you are doing and that your phone isn't going to develop any other problems...

we changed the digitizer on a 3GS and then the home button stopped working... decided that maybe we should get it sorted by Apple afterall and they downright refused to even look at it as it had a non-Apple part on it! Our only choice then was to spend more money and replace the whole front of the phone - in all it would have been cheaper to go to Apple to start with and we would have still been in a position for future Apple repair should the need arise.
