NPower Central Heating and boiler care!

  • Well the one who came to service mine had a massive NPOWER sign on his van. but like you I have got an uneasy feeling about BG NPOWER E-ON ect service contracts. I have this premonition that if anything goes wrong with the boiler, anything, it will be, beyond economic repair and they will push a new boiler onto you. Just my thoughts
  • Ive never had heating cover in all the ten years Ive lived here. Vaillant turbomax boiler eleven years old. One old little radiator, and one old double radiator in the house, rest are fours year old. Bleed the radiators every six months, use the brush to clean the radiator vents so you get more heat out, keep them white with enamel paint, top the water up in the boiler, keep it serviced. Ive paid £45 for service last month. Its had two divertor valves replaced at £60 each in the ten years ive used it.

Next is a new air pressure switch after xmas.

Id rather get it fixed properly than rely on a npower, british gas or any other company to fix it.

    :D

Also it's just occurred to me that all these service providers, npower,BG etc, do they all use the same engineeers?

No they dont BG are BG I asked NP if they used local tradespeople they said yes they do, however they must subcontract engineers.

...They've already taken first DD and next available appointment is late January!
They have let you down twice, do you really want to find out if they are going to let you down again?

As they haven't done the "acceptance" inspection, you are unlikely to be able to claim on the insurance if something were to happen. I would ask for confirmation in writing whether or not you can claim for the time being by sending them an email ( do NOT call as they will say you are covered and later deny ). If they to confirm in writing/email that you are covered until further notice, I would instruct my bank to to
claw back the dd payment as no service for this month has been given.
  • Problem with this time of year is that is when boilers start to breakdown so more resource goes on the emergency call outs, especially if the engineer is just booked in for an inspection, if an breakdown call comes in and he is closest then he'll get the inspection canx and told to go to the breakdown, the big problem then seems to be the lack of communication with the customer to set their expectations and sort a new realistic appointment.

NPower left me a message asking me to call them to arrange initial inspection!

I called today and asked why as I have inspection already booked for end of January..........their reply was "we need to book another date as the engineer is busy that day"
Needless to say I told them what they can do with their inspection :silenced: I've cancelled the DD and have asked for DD already paid to be returned.

    Appalling customer service.

on another note.... BG employ all their engineers, as do EON..... NPOWER however empoy less than 200 engineers... the rest are sub contractors.

I bet Mystic Meg would turn up on time!

Funnily enough I cancelled BG earlier this year because they'd let me down 3 years running!
