What size SD card to load music

I have a San Francisco phone with a 2gb SD card. I want to download music onto the phone rather than carrying the phone and an Ipod. What size card should I upgrade to? I am not going to download more than a few albums but I have no idea how much space they use.

Thanks grumbler that's brilliant. I think I will download a few albums to my existing SD card as it would seem that I can get up to 250 songs (there's hardly anything on the card at the moment) and see what the quality is like before buying a larger card

The quality is entirely dependant on what bit rate you rip them at and the headphones you use.

Now I am even more confused. A lot of micro sd cards seem to come with an adapter:

Kingston 16GB Micro SD (SDHC) Card - Class 4 + SDHC Adaptor

Why do I need an adaptor, can't I just replace the existing card? Sorry if this is a silly question but I am new to smartphones and have no teenagers to ask.

You use it in the phone without an adaptor. You use the adaptor if you want to use the card in a camera, laptop or PC with a SD slot.
