car insurance disclosures

Please can anyone advise? I took out car insurance with "Privilege" in June 2011. I have my partner on as a named driver. I disclosed his TS10 offence which was the only endorsement on his license. My partner then found he couldn't renew his own insurance with his company in December,as they were excluding his vehicle as it had become 20 years old. Price comparison websites offered high renewals as two no fault claims of mine kept coming up as claims. He tried my insurance company, and giving his details also mentioned two bus lane offences (TS 70). We have a new 50 yard bus lane which Mark overlooked- twice! My company offered him insurance at £480 then said they must charge me £437 on top of my £503 premium for non disclosure of his bus lane offences- backdated to June 2011. He paid the two charges which has increased my insurance from £503 to £940- the week before Christmas! I thought bus lane council charges were civil offences? Can anyone advise if I have any rights here, I am happy to consider cancelling and looking elsewhere but would need to get some money back.

Anything that results in an endorsement on the driving licence is declarable.

I would have thought Bus lanes come under local authority by-laws and would be fine only. Are you sure that TS70 actually come from bus lane? It is possible as TS70 is Failure To Comply With Traffic Direction Or Sign. However, that would suggest a more significant excursion into a bus lane, such as going through a set of lights that is designated for bus only or a specific route that is bus only (rather than left lane during peak hours)

  • Thanks - the bus lane fines don't appear on the license as they are not endorsable- the code I used was given to Mark by the insurance company.

I'm not sure these are discloseable then. Confused. com asks for

Please list any motoring convictions in the last 5 years. If unsure, conviction details can be found on your driving licence.

If they are not endorsed on his licence then they are not motoring convictions that an insurer would want to know about.

Best to speak to the insurer again.

Sounds like a bit of confusion. Its the endorsements on the licence only that matter.
