Any counsellors on board?

  • Hi there,
As others have suggested have a look on the BACP website, but also the UKCP website regarding training. You will need to do pre-entry type courses prior to undertaking the diploma course, whicha s others have said is quite expensive. I know that the provider I have undertaken training with have a funding finder online resource where you enter lots of details about yourself and it tells you about local grants/schemes etc that you may be eligible to apply for. I also think it's really important that the course recommends students undertake their own personal therapy throughout training - an additional expense but I think an important one. Also you will need to factor in the cost of supervision when you get to the stage of starting your placement hours. Although for the counselling students we take on in my place of work we pay for their supervision. I'm aware that many places are no longer able to afford to do so do to budget cuts etc. I'm aware of lots of counsellors/therapists who do this as their main role, it is possible, but you have to be good, willing to work hard. Once you qualify there will be options to not only register with BACP/UKCP but also to eventually work towards accreditation. The two websites will give you plenty of guidance and info, best of luck

UKCP only have one registered Scottish college and it only does accrediting, not training! Sent off an email to ask if they can suggest a trainer.

I think this is where you need to be looking. I hadn't come across it before because I'm not the familiar with the Scottish systems.
