Bosch washing machine gone weak

I have a Bosch washing machine 3 weeks out of it's 2 year warranty. The motor has gone very weak, ie it will just about turn the drum when empty but not with any washing in. It will spin but again very weakly as though it doesn't have enough power.

The drum seems to be free enough when turned by hand and the belt isn't slipping.

I suspected the brushes, took them out but they were still an inch or so long. I cleaned them up, put them back but it's made no difference.

Could it still be the brushes, a faulty motor or something else?

Any ideas welcome.
Thanks.

An inch on the brushes should be sufficient to turn the motor.

Try taking the motor to a local washing machine repairer and ask them to test it for you.

Or, you can search online for instructions on how to do this yourself.

I agree with nickj on this. I think the Sale of Goods Act states that you have up to 6 years to claim on faulty appliances. A washing machine should last longer than 2 years - especially a Bosch.

Thanks. I've phoned them up and the build date confims Nov 09. Unfortunately as my receipt says 20 Nov 09 they are saying that their company policy means it's out of warranty.

An engineer is coming out on thursday, I'll see what he has to say is wrong with it. Worst case scenario is £89 call out + £150 for the motor in which case I'll look at the SOGA. The trouble is a washing machine is not something you can do without for too long - the washing's already piling up. Not impressed.

That's an very high call out charge. I pay £25 diagnostic, and a fixed price repair of £24, plus parts. Find a cheaper local independent.
I still think that a pleading letter to Bosch saying how disappointed you are, etc etc, might be worth a try. They generally have a very good reputation for reliability in white goods. A motor should not fail in two years.

Erm, have you ever emptied the fluff filter in those 2 years? Every time my machine slows down it's because the filter is clogged up :rotfl: though it normally manages to wash but won't spin.
