Points on Licence

Hi all, hoping for some advice. My husband was caught speaking on his mobile phone whilst driving and is getting 3 points on his licence. None of us have ever had any points etc so just wondering, do we need to send the licence away for them to add points on to it? Will they charge for this? thanks in advance for any advice

Has he been given a endorseable fixed penalty notice and did he surrender his licence at the time? Or does he have to take his licence into a police station? If it is the latter he will have the option of surrendering the licence and if he pays the fixed penalty then the licence will be sent off to DVLA for the endorsement to be added and it will then be returned. There is no charge for this.

Edit: If its like a speeding fine you send the money and the license to the DVLA and they return it with the points added to the paper part. There is no charge to get the points added as you have paid the fine.

To avoid the charge of getting them removed when they have expired, wait till you move house as an address change is free and they will take off any expired points at the same time.

Why don't you read whats on the paperwork from the police? - That will tell you what you need to know and it won't be 'internet advice' which isn't known for 100% reliability.

A lot of people think i will accidently forget to send it off but later find out the police have
already contacted the DVLA who have suspended the licence.

People find out when stopped for driving without a valid licence and insurance.
