    Turkey isn't traditional .....

I didn't say it had to turkey to be traditional Chistmas dinner, but maybe my post did imply that. I was just saying that if you cook up a cheap bit of meat, with some veg, and don't really do anything special is it really Christmas dinner? To me, the whole point of Christmas dinner is to do something special that you wouldn't normally do. That doesn't mean spending hundreds, but I think it does mean buying and cooking stuff you wouldn't normally do.

The turkey at Christmas tradition is only just over 100 years old.
I haven't had Christmas turkey for years. I work on the basis that if you're going to fork out for a mega dinner it may as well be something you really like so the meal differs from year to year. Goose, venison. whatever takes the fancy
My Dad gets those weird birds inside birds inside birds things sometimes. We had a Gooducken last year, Duck in a chicken in a goose I think. Something for everyone! :)

I thought it was illegal to have anything other than over-cooked sprouts.

    No apology required!

Cleaver sprout recipe: 2 minutes (no more) in boiling water then chopped and quicky stir fried with honey and lemon.

No choille, but see why the world food at Ullapool is so appealing in contrast to that.
