Mail for landlady at our address

Firstly, I've no idea if this is the right place to put this, so if it needs moving please let me know!
I was just wondering if anyone knows anything about forwarding mail to a previous resident?
Basically, we are receiving quite a bit of mail for our landlady, who for whatever reason seems to use our address for some things. I don't mind sending on the odd thing, but I begrudge paying to forward things to her, especially when we get things that are clearly just part of mailing lists.
I remembered that where I once lived, someone used to get mail forwarded from their previous property, and whoever sent it would just cross out the address it had been sent to and write ours on it. This cut out them having to pay any extra postage and it got to us.
Is this the appropriate way to do things, or should I get the landlady to pay us for postage and send things in batches?

just place cross out your address and then write "no longer at this address try <write landlords address>" and stick in a post box0

Just cross out your address & write Forward to .......... [relevant address] & put it in the postbox. No need to pay anything at all.0

Excellent, thank you both. Just wanted to check before I did it!0

Why not just ask the landlady. she might just say to leave it and she'll collect it every so often0

Yeah, she lives in Liverpool though & we're in Leeds so I doubt she'd be fussed to come over (we've lived here for nearly 18 months and never has she asked us whether any mail has been received). I'd bin it if it weren't illegal/sometimes clearly important mail!0

It's not illegal to bin mail. It's illegal to use another persons mail to their detriment.
It can't be that important tbh if the landlady still hasn't had it redirected or changed the address with the sender.
Personally i'd just pile it up, whack it in an envelope and post it to her. Don't put postage on it and i'm fairly certain RM will charge the receipient before delivering it.0 -
Some of it's probably from the mortgage company who haven't given consent to let the property out and the Landlady doesn't want to alert them by changing the address! :eek:0

Absolutely. If any of it is addressed to 'the Occupier', don't forward it. It really is for the Occupier and not for the absent Landlord - [STRIKE]and it may be your only notification of repo proceedings against the property.[/STRIKE]Some of it's probably from the mortgage company who haven't given consent to let the property out and the Landlady doesn't want to alert them by changing the address!

Bit of a leap of faith there, eh? Where does the OP infer that they are living in an "illegally"-let property?0

Post duly amended. But even if the LL has not got a BTL mortgage, it is still legal to let the property. More important to get the message across about mail addressed to the occupier because the Landlord still having mail delivered is an indicator for not having a BTL mortgage.Bit of a leap of faith there, eh?
