Bank emails

 Recently i have been bombarded with emails from Banks about account problems. I know these are Spams, just they seem to be on the increase. Had 4 today 3 from coop bank and 1 from lloyds-tsb. Also had them from the halifax and santander. Never had accounts with any of these They all automatically go into my junk folder and i mark them as "phishing scam". Is anybody else getting these? and is there anything that can be done about them?

Switch to Gmail - who block them all. I only get them via Orange, who let anything through.

Yep, get them all too. I forward them to the bank they're purporting to be from. Don't know what good that does, but makes me feel like I've at least done something. E-mail addresses I use are:
ihaveseenascam@co-operative.co.uk
emailscams@lloydstsb.co.uk
esecurity@halifax.co.uk
phishing@santander.co.uk

I just get the e-mail addres from their website. :)
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

That means that they are not actually from the banks if you know they are spam.

Everyone does. Wasnt it earlier this week that the news reported that Boots are going to stop using email internally due to high levels of spam and junk mail. There was an article that suggested that some ridiculously high percentage of all emails are spam.

If you have a good spam filter then you dont need to worry about it.

• I ignore ALL emails that say they come from the bank. I DO NOT TRUST them to be legit. If it's for real they will either call, in which case I make a point of taking their name, dept and extension and calling them back on the number on the back of my debit card or write to me.

It's not worth taking the risk as the phishers start to get clever.

I don't ignore all emails that claim to be from banks, but I'd never click any links and I always verify the information.

For example, this morning I had an email from my bank telling me me my latest statement was available to download in PDF format, so I logged in and downloaded it.

Filter them, ignore them and use a different email account for each financial institution so you know that only emails to that specific address can be from it. Get any email to a different one and you can be sure that it's fake even if you happen to have an account with the place it's mentioning.

After around ten years of giving every place I deal with a different email address, it's rare for legitimate companies to sell the addresses that they are given. Randomly trying lots of different email addresses or harvesting any you post in a public place are the usual sources. Sometimes they come from breaking into a site also.
