Hotpoint Dishwasher door won't close, help please.

Late last year I bought my very first dishwasher to go in my new kitchen, a slimline Hotpoint (SDW85A) from Dixons website. I Had it delivered and installed it but since then it's sat unused until the other night when I gave it a rinse through before using it more regularly. After it had finished the dry cycle there was rather a lot of steam inside to I left the door open slightly to dry off.

Tonight I loaded it up with dirty dishes, inserted the tablet and proceesed to close the door (still open from lastime) with much resistance, it sprung back open. I've had a look inside and can't see anything stopping it from closing, even emptied it and took the baskets out and it still springs open with quite a bit of force.

I've looked through the book and can't see anything relating to this, as I wondered if perhaps it had a filter or something that needed cleaning before I could use it again which was preventing me from closing the door.

It's still under warranty I guess being only four months since purchasing, so I'll phone Hotpoint tomorrow if they are open. (Dixons are useless at anything like this I've found, they just bombard you with automated systems charged at national rate then divert you to the company via Dixons own number!)

It's really bugging me, so if anyone thinks I might be missing something simple please let me know.

Thanks.

Take the baskets out & try again. If it is not the baskets that are stopping the door shutting then it is a job for Hotpoint if under warranty.

Have you tried opening the handle again to make sure the catch is in the open position.
You're Damned If You Do & You're Damned If You Don't
  • The handle doesn't have a manual catch to it as such, you just close it then pull it again to open.

I tired taking out the baskets again and this time it closed! I put the baskets back in and it still closed. I filled up the top basket with a few things and it wouldn't close again.

it seems at the back of the top basket there's a pipe which connects onto the water spray part on the bottom of this basket. When I was adding any weight at all to the top basket it would tip forward a little making it not connect correctly to the pipe, thus forcing the door open. giving it a lift up and push back it seems to work. I'd have thought the rails would have been made to a strength this wouldn't be a problem, but there you go.

Thanks for the suggestions as trying it again has saved me calling Hotpoint tomorrow and looking a bit daft :)

The basket is not missing a wheel is it ?.
  • That's a good point. I've had another look but all four seem to be there and spinning fine.

I'll see if I can tighten up the rails at all, perhaps they have become a little bit loose when it's been moved around.

Got my dishes washed in the end latnight :)
