boiler cover

Any advice on the best boiler / central heating cover? Just had a quote from EON for £12.38 for 6months and then £16.50 after. Is this a good deal?

You will never know until you really really need a response but the charge is about par for the course.

What model and vintage of boiler?
  • There are several downsides to generic heating breakdown cover.

    1. It tends to be very expensive for what you get; £16.50 dd = 200 quid per year.
    2. In most cases, it does NOT include servicing, and lack of proper maintenance is likely to reduce the life expectancy of your boiler dramatically.
    3. Literally thousands of people paid lots of money over the years for cover, only to be told the boiler was “beyond economic repair” when they tried to use their cover.
    4. Lots of people THINK they have a guarantee of repair within 24 hours, where in reality they are only entitled to “somebody having a look at the boiler within 24 hours, IF PRACTICABLE”. As long as the insurer sends an apprentice out who concludes he can't solve the problem, they have fulfilled their obligation.
There is one Big Gascompany that has tricked many people this way.

I only recommend cover to people that have notoriously bad boilers, or a make with excessively high costs for parts.
