Hi Pap....a friend of mine's Mum makes and sells handmade cards for a living, so I've been quizzing her today about what sells well.

She makes her own paper (no idea how, but it looks quite cool.....sort of rough and ready but very pretty - she does various colours), and cuts a small square which she sticks in the middle of the card, then sticks little glittery bits, jewels, pictures etc onto that - she says they always sell well. I have a card that she made so I can take a picture and upload it if you want to see what I mean.

She also hand makes little 'pebbles' - very small and delicate and painted in pretty, delicate colours, and puts these on the card.

She also signs the back of each card in a very fine silver pen, to give the impression of it being completely unique.

Finally, she said the best tip she can give is that cards for men should appeal to women, as women buy cards for men, but men don't buy cards for men anywhere near as often (if that makes sense).

Don't know if any of that is any help to you, but thought I would pass it on just in case!

This photo isn't very clear, sorry - I just took it quickly on my phone camera and the light isn't very good in here, but it will give you the general idea....

She's doing really quite well with them - not making millions or anything but has a lot of repeat customers. I hope it didn't come across as though I'm saying you should do exactly what she's doing, I just thought I'd ask someone who is making a career out of a similar thing for a few ideas.

I really admire people with artistic talent, I haven't got a creative bone in my body, in fact my favourite saying is 'originality is only knowing how to hide your sources'....lol!
