How to "thank you" to agency that got me a job and excellent opportunity

What is the best way to thank the agency that got me a permanent job.
After I had completed years of studies at UNI, I applied for a specific job through a recruitment agency.
My CV was forward to the company but I was not selected for an interview due to lack of experience (we all knew it'd happen but the agency still forward my CV) However, for some reason the consultant liked me and believed in my potential. To cut a long story short, he managed to arrange another interview for a similar role in the same company (this vacancy didn't exist at the time and was kind of created for me, to give me an opportunity).
A 3 months part time temporary contract through the agency became a full time contract directly with the company.
I still cannot believe I've got the job which didn't existed when I applied.
All that thank to one person, the consultant!
I'd like to write a letter. Should I also send a box of chocolates or it is too much?
How to thank the agency and its staff!

Having worked in a recruitment agency (and now own a agency with 17 offices) the best way to "thank" the consultant and the company is to :
1) Write a letter to the Manager, MD or boss and CC in the consultant who placed you. State on the letter your thanks (and your post above) and tell them you will be in on a certain date/time to thank them personally.
2) Turn up on said date/time with a pack of beer*/chocolates*/flowers*/doughnuts*.
This will be the talking point of the office for days and the consultant will be the centre of attention. When this happens to us, I like to turn up too and congratulate the consultant and thank the customer.
Thats the best you can do, really.

(* = choose something based on gender/age, usually something the office can share is good as it means everyone in the office gets to hear about it!)How about no longer being masochistic?
How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?0 -
Isn't the comission they will be earning enough of a 'thanks'?

By all means send a card or letter, but lets be honest the guys primary motivation was the thousands of pounds of fees and commission payable to the agency, not helping you per se. Chocolates etc is a bit OTT.0

Although I understand the comments re: commission etc. surely sometimes it is nice to do something nice for somebody else ?
As a society, I have noticed more and more recently that people do not show their appreciation as much as they used to ..... sorry, going off on a tangent there (it must be my age .....)
I think that dseventy gives some great ideas.0 -
Even if their intention was entirely to make money, they still showed faith in the OP and went out of their way to help the OP, even if it was ultimately to help themselves they still helped the OP and it's pretty clear that help has changed their life...0

Oh give them a box of chocolates! Forget what the PC brigade or party poopers say - be individual!

well done with the new job OP! take them in a box of chocolates. it's just a small gesture to show your gratitude:T0

I agree. People work hard not just for the money but for the thanks.
I think D70s advice is excellent, a bit OTT but if someone did this for me I would be delighted!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
I worked in admin for a recruitment consultancy for 5 years. I don't think in that time any single one of the candidates went out of their way to thank us for our efforts in this way.

Of course your recruiter will have got comission for the placement, BUT let's face it, the time they spent "selling" you and hoping to place you, they could have spent on a surer bet.
I would certainly send something to thank them (and publicly, too, like mentioned- a letter addresses to their boss, and cc them in/with a box of chocs for them).
People are far too slow to show appreciation these days. This person clearly went beyond and above to get you placed - why WOULDN'T you recognise this, even if it's just with a note - anything, really, to show you noticed.0
