JSA help

Hi all.

Am very confused about where I stand with my JSA.

I left a decent job a year ago, to move to be with my partner(school teacher), but have struggled to find work as we live in a rural area.

I've just found out that my JSA is being stopped completely as my partner(not married) is working full time. I was on contribution based JSA, but the 6 months are now up and as my partner is on a teachers wage, she pushes us up over the limit for income based JSA.
Im in the process of starting a t shirt printing business(have a 2yr old son, so working from home suits us)and have been using the JSA to pay my portion of the rent, but am now left with no income at all and a business which is still a few weeks/months away from earning me any money.
My partner helps me out by paying all the gas, elec, council bills and her share of the rent, but has told me that there is no way that she will be paying all of the rent and food bills too.

Having my JSA stopped has totally freaked me out, as the 5k savings I did have were all spent on equipment for the business. I am now down to my last £1000 and am struggling to see how I will be able to afford to live past January.

Before I consider selling a kidney, or stripping off on webcam, I thought i'd ask here first if the job centre were right to stop my benfefits and if there was any other support I could claim? :o

Any help appreciated.

I'm afraid that what partner means, you are meant to support each other. I'm assuming you are getting benefits related to your child? I can't see what else you are entitled to.

New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.

Yes, CB JSA only lasts for 6 months.

If you have had a drop in income then you may get more tax credits if you give HMRC a estimate as opposed to them using last years figures.

I would advise you and your partner make a Statement of Affairs and access your incoming and outgoings, it shouldn't be too hard to survive on just the one wage as teachers aren't badly paid, unless your household has debt.

I'ld remind her of the following:

Yes the JCP is right. The law says you need £105.75 to live on as a couple. They ignore £10 of any earnings so if she's earning more than £115.75 pw you have no entitlement at all.

I assume tax credits are in payment ? Let HMRC know so they might award/increase working tax credit.

Possible entitlement to housing and council tax benefit depending on her wage.

    Sell the webcam :D
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!
