We're staying at a Travelodge near Portsmouth Thursday and Friday next week on the £15 deal. I'm looking for advice on places to go and places to eat cheaply. Any ideas welcomed!

GunWharf Quays is a really nice Designer Retail Outlet Shopping area with various restaurants etc. You could go up the Spinnaker Tower or take a boat to the IOW.0

Gunwharf Quays has loads of pubs/restaurants although some of them are quite pricey. The Water margin chinese is nice as they do the "all you can eat" buffet for about £13 in the evenings and £7 for lunch.
Places to go. Well Gunwharf Quays for shopping and the Spinaker Tower. Also cinema there too.
Southsea seafront for a stroll along the beach and there is the sealife centre. You could also get the hovercraft to the isle of wight. There's a Brewers Fayre by the funfair at southsea too.
There is also the Historic Dockyard for the Mary Rose, HMS Warrior and the victory if you're into naval history and the likes.
I can't think of anything else at the mo, please ask if you want any more info.0 -
Eating out cheaply (with decent food) and Portsmouth do not go in the same sentence. I live in Portsmouth and find it is as expensive as London. There is the Lady Hamilton down on the Hard which does great roasts if thats the sort of thing you like. Agora restaurant and Istanbul Grill down Osborne Road in Southsea does great (and cheap) Greek/Turkish food. Chez Choi (Chinese noodle house) in the same location and Spice Merchants (Indian but a little pricey). Gunwharf does have Nando's, Frankie & Benny's and Pizza Express which are quite reasonable, as long as you don't drink. Down Gunwharf we're talking £10 for a glass of wine, pint and juice. The pubs are much cheaper but Commercial Road (main shopping centre) does have a Wetherspoons. Don't even bother going shopping in Portsmouth it is possibly the worst shopping centre in the south. Go to Southampton its much better. Don't think much of Gunwharf for shopping either personally but it is marginally better than Commercial Road. Spinnaker Tower, quite expensive just to look at Gosport (I have been spoilt though having done the CN Tower in Toronto), personally I wouldn't pay extra for the glass elevator especially as it has been broken for the last 2 years and has only just been repaired. Dockyard is a good day out but also expensive. I'll be honest I can't think of any good reason to come to Portsmouth. Chichester is a lovely town about 20 minutes down the motorway. Sorry to be so negative.0

Any advice on Chichester then! Although having said that, looks like our weekend away is up the spout anyway as we've got sick rabbits to look after.0
