They really are the most beautiful dogs!!!!

I highly recommend Beagles too and would have a house full of them if I could:D

My little Snoopy is the most tolerant dog I've ever met! He's a sweet, friendly, clown like endearing boy who loves cuddles and fuss, absolutely adores his family and can actually go off lead safely!! Even in woodlands and such he will go off lead and always come back on first calling -wagging his tail all excited! That and the Beagle face just completely melts you,it's sooo sweet! He adores my severely autistic son too and isn't in the slightest bit phased by his high pitched screaming -infact,he'll go and pat his leg when he's screaming lol with his ears pricked out and his head cocked to the side :)

They can be a bit of fun to train!!! The first time I told Snoopy to sit and guided him down was as an ickle pup with him on the sofa next to me.Since that, everytime I told him to sit he would run up onto the sofa to sit:rotfl:

The only problem with Beagles is you have lots of people pestering you while out for walks. If I had a pound for everyone who comes up to you saying 'omg is that a Beagle,oh he's so beautiful' and spending ages fussing him I'd be a very rich woman!!!

He is terrified of swans though!!!!
If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?

Have you looked at dogpages forum? Lots of smaller rescues put their dogs on there.

Theres a GORGEOUS young border terrier on dogsblog too :) google for south east dog rescue.

    Or prodogs direct?

Bernwood springer rescue have a year old springer called Gigi? Shes neutered and innoculated but needs some more training as she has been kept outside or in kennels. They are looking for a family home preferably in the country and Gigi likes horses. Info and photos on dogpages forum dogs looking for homes, south.

Yes, I have, I've checked both daily for a year and a half, and contacted rescues about many dogs that sounded ok, and a few that sounded perfect, but every time with the same result. I have always had rescued/rehomed dogs in the past, but I think I have given up this time. Hopefully when the children are older, and have grown up around animals, we'll be able to get back to supporting rescues (though I do wonder how much they are helping their own cause, and am frustrated by the whole thing).
  • Beagles are very good around cats, too (we had 5, plus a rabbit and various other waifs and strays, with no problems). And they love trotting along for nice long walks.

But I remember walks taking ages because everyone squealed 'oh, how lovely! and of course, Sam (my lemon Beagle) had to let them say hello to him and chat for at least five minutes each time. It's because they have those lovely baby/sad faces all their lives.

    [sniff]

    I really, really loved Sam.

Missing him now (he died when I was 21). Mainly because at this time of the year, the cat would be sleeping in the silver tinsel and he would be wearing green and blue wrapped around his collar whilst my mum tried desperately to decorate the tree without my assistance, so I had to entertain myself, the mad bosseyed cat and the dog somehow
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.

Yup you are officially Rock n Roll :D
  • Hi,

Someone has already suggested the dogpages forum which is a great place as a lot different rescues post there.

But I foster/ed for Many Tears in Wales and they rehome to people with children. Especially as a lot of the dogs have been in foster homes with people's families so you know how the dog reacts with children. They also have lots of puppies.

I think as long as they are supervised correctly and not left alone, dogs and children are wonderful together. I have always had dogs ;)
    Just keep swimming!
  • Saw an absolutely stunning Rhodesian Ridgeback on Saturday. Great temperament, big and very muscular. Ideal company for a runner I'd imagine. I know I'd be looking no further if I wanted a running companion - but as I can barely run the length of our street I reckon it'd get very frustrated with me :(

Ah! I have met one! In fact I used to know several rather well, I just didn't know what they were called - my old vet used to breed and show them, and they used to follow us out on the horses, they were lovely dogs. I will add them to the (long, and ever-increasing) list of breeds to think about, thank you.

Just to warn you, our Spinone drools a lot. He's an amazingly gentle (if a little stupid) dog, but the walls have to be regularly cleaned from him shaking his head!

I thought GIGI sounded a good bet for you?

I have 3 King Charles Spaniels they are fantastic with kids. my little boy says girlie dogs!!!! love nothing more than to sit next to you for cuddles. They also enjoy going for long walks with me or just little ones with kids. Its hard deciding when everyone loves different breeds of dogs.

Good luck in finding your pooch:)
