bt anytime calls £16.50, good/bad deal?

hi, just a quickie.

i was looking at changing line rental and calls to sky, it would be £17.25 (i think). that would be anytime calls free, including hungarian landlines, but it wouldnt include 0845 numbers. we are currently paying bt £14.60, line rental, inc eve n w/e calls and use indirect service for calls to hungary. these are charged at 1p land, and 7p mob with bt, but would be 12.5p connection, and 10ppm with sky. its kinda swings and roundabouts really, and i dont expect anyone else to worry about my usage, so im not asking that, so dont panic! what id like to know is £16.50 as low as bt would go, does anyone have experience of haggling with them? should i bite their hand off and take the £16.50 before they change their minds?

thanks in advance for any help!

If you call, they'll suggest paying 12 months' line rental up front (Line Rental Saver) and that takes line rental down to £10/month so, with Unlimited Anytime calls, £14.90 or thereabouts.

It sounds like you have been offered the (fairly standard) £3/month off line rental - which is the best they offer (£14.60 - £3 + £4.90 = £16.50).

It's really just a question of calculating whether BT's slightly cheaper offering (with 0845 calls included) is better for you than Sky's offering (with international calls included).

Oh, and possible problems of moving from Sky LLU in the future.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    hi, thankyou for the reply.

i had worried about the hassle of moving to sky, but hadnt considered what would happen if i chose to leave em later on. i think the possible issues outweigh the few quid id be saving. but its good to know not to waste my time trying to haggle bt down, as it wont work! i didnt think theyd offer owt off to be honest, so although its not loads, its better than nowt, which is what id been gettin fer years!

    thanks again!:)

I have just moved onto O2 home phone from Sky. I have been with their broadband since it started and have never had any real problems. Their line rental is only £7.50 per month and their unlimited package is £6, plus it includes 600 minutes of calls to 22 countries, which include Hungary and it includes 600 mins to 0845/0870 numbers and I got my broadband free for 6 months as a thankyou for moving my phone to them.

When I first went to Skytalk, they offered me free line rental for a year, I didn't have the broadband with them, once I started paying for line rental I realised I could get a better deal, but definitely worth it if they are throwing freebies around :)

I phoned sky Last sunday evening and told them i wanted to cancel my sky tv as my sky + was playing up.
They offered me a free HD box and free installation and 1/2 price HD for 6 months. It was when i kept saying that i am trying to save money that they offered me the Free line rental and broadband for 9 months.
I took them up on the HD offer on the sunday night but did take up the offer on the phone line till monday morning as i wanted to check with Bt to see if i had any cancellation charges to pay.
The only problem i had was when i phoned sky on the monday they said the phone offer was no longer available.
But i just explained that i only took the hd offer on the understanding that i could take the phone offer once i had checked with bt so i just said that if i could not have the phone offer they could cancel the HD box.
After a few minutes on hold they said i could have the offer so i am well happy.
Even after i have paid the Hd pack i am still making a saving over the year of around £180
