i have booked a handyman for 2 hours through the kgb website. have lots of finicky things to do ranging from putting toilet roll holder back on wall to redecorating. i obviously need to supply materials but what i am wondering is how much can i realistically expect him to do in 2 hours as i dont want to buy stuff he wont have time to do? would it be easier if anhy handymen out there if i were to list them on here and maybe you could help me make a realistic list for him

Would you be able to speak to him on the phone first? I'm (definitely!) no expert, but I guess you'd need to talk through what the jobs are and the general condition of things. ie if the loo roll holder came off because the screws were knackered or a piece broke it'd probably take just a few minutes, but if it's because the wall itself is falling down and needs replastering then it'd take much longer! I know that's a silly example but you know what I mean. I would be surprised if anyone would say 2 hours is enough to do 5 jobs for example without knowing what they are and exactly what needs doing.
Why don't you list the jobs here and I'm sure someone who knows more about that kind of thing could estimate?0 -
as above.
you need to list the jobs here so we can give you some sort of rough estimate regarding timings.
ie, decorating? in 2 hrs. paint a few doors or paint the walls in a small room. empty room.Get some gorm.0 -
Also, try to think of things that there's no way you could do yourself. I obviously don't know your personal circumstances but if it was me, I can paint a wall or a door myself, given the paint and the motivation, so I'd get him to do things that required tools I don't posess, like drills, saws etc. So they might not be the bit dramatic things like decorating, but they're the things that I couldn't do, rather than the things I just haven't got around to yet.0

you're not going to get much decorating done in 2 hours , you might get a few doors done but if you want any walls doing i would have thought that by the time it's been filled , washed down etc you probably won't get any actual painting done0

If you can do some of the prep yourself it could save you money either strip walls, clean skirting, doors etc prior to painting, filling in any holes in plaster. You might have trouble getting someone for 2 hours0

Or anyone that is any good perhaps.
I am surprised that you can book someone without them having an idea of what you want doing."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

When I was a handyman I don't think that I would have turned up on the off chance for 2 hours to see what I might be able to do.
At the very least, I would want a good indication of what jobs needed doing. If only to be sure that I took the correct tools.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
i got the deal through one of those reduced cost service/restaurant sites kgb etc0

List your jobs on here and then maybe we could give you a chance of geting your moneys worth.... It is amazing how quickly time goes when things need doing.0

I think handymen in my area are around £25 per hour cash in hand / near as.
For 2 hours, you are not going to get much done. Also, the guy has to travel twice for only 2 hours pay and if he doesn't know what needs doing, how can he bring the correct tools and parts ?0
