Motorcycle Insurance... cosmetic claim?

Hello all,
Having had my new bike shunted over  it's now in the garage being checked for the damage. I've spoken to the guy responsible and he'd like to sort out the cost of any repairs without involving the insurance companies (which is fine by me as insurance companies are always a pain to deal with).
At the moment I think he's banking on only having to pay for the foot peg that snapped in the fall, but I also know that the underside of the exhaust is all scratched and scrapped and the concern is, of course, that eventually water will begin to work it's way under the chrome. To others this may come under 'cosmetic damage'. All of my past vehicles have been 'tired' looking so I've never had to make a claim involving anything cosmetic.
My question is this: If he kicks up a fuss about having to sort out the exhaust then it's straight off to the insurance company, but is there a case (as we all know they don't like to pay out at the best of times) for him and his insurance company to put up a fight about paying for the repair of this sort of damage?

Yes. Go straight to his insurer! (Comply with your insurance policy regarding notifying your insurer about incidents)0

Thanks Quentin, I've already notified my insurer. I'll give him the chance to come good on paying for the damage and if that doesn't go to plan then I'll take the next step and notify his insurer. Had the bike for 3 weeks... gutted! On the bright side at least I wasn't riding it at the time!0
