Boots.com order not arrived by date specified

I placed an order with Boots.com on 2 December for collection in store (my first ever order with them).
The confirmation email states 'your order will be ready for collection on or before 8 December' (yesterday).
The order hasn't arrived, so I called customer services, who said it can be up to 48 hours after the date specified before it gets sent out from their warehouse! There is absolutely nothing anywhere on their site on in the confirmation email which says this.
The order was a present which I need tonight, so I will now have to go out for something else, and then return the order when it does arrive.
Are they under any obligation to deliver by the date specified, and is there any way of wangling a voucher or something as 'compensation' for the inconvenience?

I wonder if they use Yodel to move things from warehouse to store because if they do you could be waiting a long time. . I had a problem with delivery and Boots put points onto my card as a good will gesture so give them a call and see what they say, I have found the call centre staff very helpful and polite.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;

No entitlement to anything but just be polite and explain the situation. If you get a half-decent CS employee I am sure they can sort something out for you. We've always found boots to be accommodating when things have gone wrong.Thinking critically since 1996....0
